Buncke Lectureship
The Harry J. Buncke Lectureship has been created with the support of the California Pacific Medical Center to honor Dr. Buncke's remarkable contributions to the field of microsurgery. Dr.Harry Buncke played a major role in the development of our specialty and helped develop several microsurgical laboratories across the globe. He influenced countless residents and fellows as well as numerous department chairs throughout the world. It is with great appreciation that the ASRM is able to honor Dr. Harry J.Buncke with this lectureship.
Each year a candidate is selected to give the Harry J. Buncke Lecture during the ASRM Annual Meeting. The main criteria for the selection are the candidate's contributions in the field of reconstructive microsurgery. Nominations for candidates are accepted from ASRM members ONLY. Godina Fellowship
DEADLINE OCTOBER 15
Dr. Marko Godina was a visionary reconstructive microsurgeon, an insightful and enthusiastic teacher, and a remarkable man. Despite his abbreviated career, tragically cut short at the age of 43, he led the way for a generation of microsurgeons in understanding the care and treatment of complex extremity injuries through early reconstructive microsurgery. ASRM established the Godina Traveling Fellow to allow a deserving individual, chosen by the ASRM, to travel among numerous microsurgical centers around the world.
Each year a candidate is selected as the Godina Traveling Fellow. The applicant must have completed a surgical residency and/or fellowship (i.e. plastic surgery, orthopedic surgery, general surgery, otolaryngology, hand and/or microsurgical fellowship), must be a member of ASRM, and submit at least three letters of recommendation from members of the ASRM or the World Society for Reconstructive Microsurgery. International Surgeon Travel Grant
The International Surgeon Travel Grant offers an opportunity to surgeons from underdeveloped countries that are experiencing financial hardship, to not make it prohibitive for these individual’s to continue their education in this ever growing specialty. This initiative is important in our world society and global health.
The grant covers three nights lodging at the host hotel in addition to the ASRM Annual Meeting registration fee. The recipient is required to submit an article to the ASRM newsletter "Reconstructive Microsurgery" sharing the impact the meeting had on them professionally. Grant recipients will be paired up with a mentor to meet during the annual meeting to further discuss the challenges faced today in ones practice.
Applicants must submit a completed application, letter of recommendation, current CV, and a personal statement addressing your interest, current employment status and type of practice, what it means to you to get this grant and what you intend to gain professionally from the meeting what issues you are facing in your practice and who you would like to be mentored by on this issue. Willliam A. Zamboni Visiting Professor
The William A. Zamboni Visiting Professor Program highlights the fantastic work of microsurgeons and ASRM members as well as the diversity associated with a practice involving microsurgery and complex reconstruction.
Visiting Professors will be provided up to $5,000 to cover flight and transportation for 3-5 trips in one calendar year. The host institution is responsible to pay the remaining costs including hotel, meals and local transportation. Based on the Program’s request for Visiting Professors, trips will be assigned at the direction of the ASRM. The visiting professors will be placed on the annual meeting program to give a brief 10 minute summary of their travels and experience as a Visiting Professor
To qualify the applicant is to be a longstanding and an actively participating member of the ASRM.
Visiting Professors must submit the application form by November 1 and a selection will be announced in January.
Interested hosts must submit the application form by January 15th and a selection will be announced at the end of April.
MicroSurge Visiting Educator Opportunity
The MicroSurge Visiting Educator Opportunity is a project developed by the ASRM in conjunction with ReSurge International to bring our members' skills to those in need around the world through short term surgical missions to underserved communities. Together ASRM and ReSurge can restore the dreams of those with deformities and injuries, and impact the world by renewing the health of many children and adults each year. The main goal of the MicroSurge Visiting Educator is to serve as an educator and a mentor to local surgeons and work with them to serve their community.
This opportunity is fully funded by ASRM, ReSurge and industry. Applicants must submit the application form by September 15.

Council Member-In-Training
The Council Member-in-Training is an official one year position on the ASRM Council without voting rights. This position is to provide leadership experience and develop a young member into a future leader of the organization.
The Council Member-in-Training is required to attend all council meetings which occur during the annual meeting in January (two annual meetings during tenure) and in July in Chicago, Illinois. The ASRM does cover the travel and housing expenses related to the meeting in July.
To qualify one must be a resident that is a current ASRM Candidate member or in the process of becoming a member, in the final two years of residency training and must be a resident or fellow during the entire tenure of position which is one year. Applicants must submit the application form by November 1st.
Women's Microsurgery Group Travel Scholarship
The Women’s Microsurgery Group Travel Scholarship aims to foster early interest in reconstructive microsurgery in women medical students or residents. ViOptix will be funding two travel scholarships for the Women’s Microsurgery Group. Awardee will attend the ASRM Annual Meeting, attend the Women’s Microsurgery Group reception, and write a short piece about her experience at the meeting to be published in the ASRM newsletter and/or website. Funding includes travel to the ASRM Annual Meeting, hotel for up to 4 nights, and ASRM meeting registration fees. Applicants must be females, medical students or residents in good standing in an U.S. or Canadian medical school or residency interested in pursuing reconstructive microsurgery.
Applicants must submit a completed application, letter of recommendation, current CV, and a personal statement addressing your interest in microsurgery and the ASRM as well as the top five characteristics, qualifications, priorities and expertise both personally and professionally you are looking for in a mentor. All applications must be submitted by September 15.

Medical Student Research Grant
The ASRM Medical Student Research Grant is intended to fund a research project to be completed during the three summer months between a student’s first and second year in medical school. This grant awards up to $2,500 for a three (3) month summer research project. No salary support for the Principal Investigator will be provided. Grant money cannot be used for Indirect Costs.
Applicants must be a medical student in a U.S. or Canadian institution with his/her Principal Investigator being an Active member of the ASRM, must attend the ASRM Annual Meeting, present his/her research during the ASRM Annual Meeting following the end of the research grant term, must submit an article to the ASRM newsletter “Reconstructive Microsurgery” reporting on the conclusion of the research project. The grant recipient’s institution or program must fund the grant recipient to attend the ASRM Annual Meeting (inclusive of travel and accommodations). Registration fee will be waived.
Applications are due April 1st.
Medical Student Travel Grant
The Medical Student Travel Grant assists medical students that want to attend the annual meeting. The scholarship covers three nights lodging at the host hotel and $500 towards travel expenses. There is no registration fee charge for medical students to attend the ASRM Annual Meeting. Additional expenses are the responsibility of the student or institution. Previous recipients of this grant are not eligible. The applicant cannot receive multiple scholarships/grants from the ASRM in one year.
Applicants must be a medical student at the time of the annual meeting and must be granted time away from rotation to attend the meeting. Applicants must submit a completed application, letter of sponsorship from faculty mentor, current CV, statement of interest, and a letter from the student office granting you time away from rotation to attend the ASRM Annual Meeting.
